Mohamed Diab | Egypt| 2010 | drama | 100 min. | Arabic spoken – English subtitles
This film discloses one of the biggest taboos in Egypt: sexual harassment on the streets of Cairo. It takes place on a daily basis, but is hardly ever talked about. The victims keep silent out of shame. A woman who doesn’t accept it would be news. Cairo 678 connects a series of actual events to tell a story about breaking the silence. Three women are experiencing various forms of harassment, from grabbing to violent attacks. One of them calls on other women to stand up for themselves, another starts a court case despite obstruction by the authorities. The third one takes the law into her own hands.
