Zohra is a lyrical and intoxicating ode to Morocco by Barney Platts-Mills, the British veteran of neorealism and the free cinema movement who has lived and worked there for the past ten years. When 14-year old Zohra and the slightly older Ibrahim meet in a small Moroccan coastal village, they are both at a crucial point in their lives. Zohra is about to be married off to a much older man, while Ibrahim wants to take an illegal boat to Spain. They fall in love and start dreaming about a future together. But can their dreams become reality?
Distinguished performances by teenage non-actors and beautiful scenery cover the film in a layer of naïve charm and poetic beauty.
