Graffiti, hiphop, skaters, DJs, critical folk- and girl rockbands: this, too, is Egypt. A country with such a young population is bound to have an underground music and arts scene. Filmmaker Ahmad Abdalla captures it, just before this generation stood up and let their voices be heard on the Tahrir Square. The script of Microphone mixes documentary and fiction and was largely derived through improvisation. When Khaled returns to Egypt after 7 years in the US, he discovers that the people he had left behind have all gone their own ways. Slightly lost, he roams the streets of Alexandria and dives into the alternative music and arts scene.
p>The screening of Microphone on Sunday May 29 will be followed by the debate ‘Arab Spring‘.
