When Laila returns to Jordan after a failed marriage and 14 years in the US, the luggage belt is empty. Is this a bad omen? Eager to start a new life, she finds it difficult to settle back into an environment that seems to have changed so much. Her old neighbourhood is now full of expats and tourists. Her father, with whom she used to have endless discussions about politics and other issues, has turned silent. Her mother and sister welcome her with open arms, but why are they now wearing a headscarf? Picking up her old life seems more difficult than Laila had imagined.
The screening in May 28 will be followed by a Q & A with actress Saba Mubarak. After that, the LaZiz dj’s take over the Rialto café for the LaZiz: Cinéma Arabe afterparty. Also featuring Stitched VJ, Shisha Lounge and real Moroccan mint tea.
