When they were young, three men were in love with the same woman: Nasreen, the daughter of the muezzin of the local mosque. She joined the Kurdish resistance movement but disappeared in the Qandil mountains in the border region of Iraq, Iran and Turkey, where soldiers of all three countries have been fighting Kurdish ‘pershmergas’ for years. The three men – known by the mysterious names of Shamal O’Prayers, Rasool O’Tears and Eyeneddin O’Daf (a frame drum) – all look for her independently. During their search they discover that thousands of other people – Kurds, Turks, Iranians and Arabs – have gone missing during this war.
