The love that grew between the two doctors Najla and Sherko in Rome has no right to exist in late 1980s Irak: Najla comes from an influential family which is loyal to Saddam Hussein, Sherko is of Kurdish descent. Without notifying Najla, he returns to Irak to help the victims of Saddam’s chemical attacks on Kurdish villages. By following him, she unintentionally puts him into a dangerous position. She condemns the aggression of her own people and takes the victims’ side – a choice that in the end makes her take a radical decision. Features ‘our’ Maryam Hassouni in a flamboyant supporting role.
