Séparations tells the story of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who cross from North Africa into Europe, and that of the families they leave behind. Mohamed, a Tunisian father of four, risks his life to create a better future for himself and his family. After sailing from Libya to Lampedusa, he travels to France, where an arduous search for work begins. Living under poor circumstances in temporary accommodation and without papers, he discovers the limits of secrecy and solidarity. In the meantime, the documentary portrays his wife and children, who are waiting in poverty for the money Mohamed will try to send.
